Biography

  William Henry Harris was born on Jan. 11, 1846 in Davensboro, Georgia.  He died Dec. 19, 1939 in Broward County, Florida and was buried in the Dania Cemetery.  He applied for pension in Dade County, Florida in 1924.  He enlisted as a private on Feb. 1, 1863 in Macon, Georgia for the duration of the war, and mustered into Company C 12th Georgia Regiment.  He was 17 years old when he enlisted.

He went into the Ocmulgee Hospital in Macon Georgia date unknown, and did not return to his unit until November 5, 1863.  He was wounded at Charles Town West Virginia August 21, 1864.  The last pay slip available states in "the remarks" that he was transferred to the non-script department by order of the War Department which was dated March 1, 1864 in Macon, Georgia.  The records reveal he surrendered as a private in Company C, 5th Georgia Reserves at Appomattox, Virginia.
