The Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) is the direct heir of the United Confederate Veterans (UCV), and is the oldest hereditary organization for male descendants of confederate soldiers. Organized in 1896, the SCV serves an historical, and patriotic organization dedicated to the preservation of a true history of the WBTS era (1861-1865). One of the most important missions of the Sons of Confederate Veterans today is the defense of confederate symbols, monuments, and the good name of our confederate heros, which have come under attack by various racist and political organizations around the country. The SCV is a dynamic organization which offers members a wide range of activities at the local, state and national level. Preservation work such as the marking and upkeep of confederate soldiers graves, historical re-enactments, scholarly publications, regular meetings and social events are a few of the activities offered by local units, which are called "camps". Membership in the SCV is open to all male descendants of any soldier who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces. Membership can be obtained through either direct or collateral family lines. Kinship must be documented genealogically. ( Find out more about membership ).
