CAMP 471 PAST EVENTS
Homestead Harvest Festival, November 22, 23, 2002
For the past four years, Camp 471 has participated in the annual "Harvest Festival" hosted by the Historical Museum of South Florida, and held each year in Homestead, Florida. This Festival is a South Florida tradition which, attracts over 12,000 visitors annually and features reenactors from Revolutionary War period attire to World War II. This year our Camp was fortunate to book an ideal location among the reenactment groups in the "Living History village" where members were able to talk with countless visitors to our "encampment", and share our Confederate history with many of our local friends and neighbors. Many thanks to Compatriots Bob Harris, Jeff Knight, Jeff Pearce, Brad Williamson, Ed Winter, and Legionaire Lou Sanchez for their participation and efforts in this event. (Have I left anyone out?)
Gods & Generals... and Camp 471
February 22, 2003 marked the Miami-Dade County Florida Premier showing of the film "Gods & Generals". Camp Commander Jeffrey Pearce and Lt. Commander Jeff Knight along with Union Army reenactor Jeff Durham. were cordially invited by the management to view the premier showing of the movie and present a display of our camp flag along with various WBTS literature and time period artifacts.
While the film was generally discounted by many mainstream movie reviewers as being biased, it received praise from many (if not most) true historians including Ron Dreher from National Review Online (www.nationalreview.com ). |
