Membership in the SCV is open to all male descendants (over age twelve) of any soldier who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces. Membership can be obtained through either direct or collateral family lines. Kinship must be document proven genealogically. Proof of kinship to a Confederate soldier can take many forms. The easiest method is to contact the state archives from where the soldier fought and obtain a copy of the veterans service record. All southern states arcives have microfilm records of the soldiers who fought from that state. A copy of these can be obtained for a nominal fee (usually under $20.00) . In addition, Confederate states also awarded pensions to soldiers and their widows up to at least 1910. These records can also be obtained and are often very useful.

If you are interested in perpetuating the ideals that motivated your confederate ancestor, the SCV and Pvt. George W. Perry Camp 471 need you. The memory and reputation of the Confederate soldier is being consciously distorted by some groups attempting to alter history and justify their organizations existence. If you are interested in preserving your southern heritage, the time to act is now. Unless the descendants of southern soldiers stand up and respectively defend their ancestors and their heritage, a unique part of our nations history will be lost to future generations.
