Q: What, exactly is the Sons of Confederate Veterans?
A: The SCV is the direct heir of the United Confederate Veterans, and the oldest hereditary organization for male descendants of Confederate soldiers. Organized at Richmond, Virginia in 1896, the SCV continues to serve as a historical, patriotic, and non-political organization dedicated to insuring that a true history of the 1861-1865 period is preserved.

Q: Who can join the Sons of Confederate Veterans?
A: Membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to ALL male descendents, age 12 years or older, of Confederate Veterans.

Q: Do I have to be a member of the SCV to be a member of the Florida Division?
A: Yes.  To be a member of the Division, you must first be a "current" member in good standing of the National SCV.?

Q: How much does it cost to join?
A: That would depend on the Camp you desire to join and when you plan on joining. Each Camp sets their own dues amount and the SCV has a proration that can apply to people that wish to join the SCV during certain periods of the year. Proration, simply is an option that will allow your membership to be current through the next year.  Check with the Adjutant of the Camp you wish to join to find out if this applies to you and what their Camp dues are. 

**Currently, "regular" dues for National HQ are $35/year and $15/year for the Florida Division.

Q: Do I have to be a member of the SCV to be a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Mechanized Cavlary?
A: Yes.  To be a member of the Mechanized Cavalry, you must first be a "current" member in good standing of the National SCV.

Q: What do I have to have to join the Sons of Confederate Veterans?
A: There are 4 items that are needed for membership into the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Florida Division.  Completed application, Applicant's lineage sheet to the Confederate Veteran, Proof of the Confederate Veteran's service, and payment for membership.  Refer to our Join the Florida Division page for more information.

Q: What do I get with my membership?
A: Once your membership is approved and you are added to the Camp, Division, and National rosters, you will receive a very nice membership SCV certificate (suitible for framing) with your name and your ancestor's name and unit, a subscription to the Confederate Veteran magazine that is put out by the National HQ, you will receive a membership card with your membership ID, you will get a subscription to The Blockade Runner put out by the Florida Division, you will receive your Camp's newsletter, you will have the opportunity to attend various SCV workshops, Division and National Reunions, and you will gain 30,000+ new "brothers".
